DIY tube amp enclosure options?
« on: 5 Oct 2024, 03:53 pm »
Hey guys,
I'm taking on a new project of building an EL84 amp based on the ANK/Tubes4HiFi ST35. It'll be pretty substantial weight with the toroidal transformers and big fat choke filter on top and hefty caps inside. In the past I've used Hammond 1444 series enclosures with good success, but recently saw Jaytor post on a fancy custom chassis. That got me thinking if there are other options people are using that can better hold that weight of chunky metal. I'm not opposed with using the Hammond again, but being only 0.05" thick aluminum I am wondering if the top will sag like a tarp in the rain.  :duh: Any info is appreciated.

I'll give those a look. They look to be a little more substantial at first glance.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Avoid steel table its magnetic, use aluminum.
You may want paint the table black for less static.

Some nice options on AliExpress.  I searched on "diy audio enclosures".
