Subwoofer cable recommendations
« on: 28 Sep 2024, 02:04 pm »
Hello,
I am currently using two REL S/812 subwoofers.  I have added a Sublime crossover to my audio system, so I am looking for RCA interconnect recommendations.  Also, I am curious, do both subwoofer interconnects need to be the same length?
Thanks for your thoughts.

IMHO,
It's preferably to use cables of the same length, but if the difference is not extreme, then I don't think you'll ever notice a difference in the sound. I've used Zenwave cables 10 foot and 14 foot and never noticed a difference.

Depending on your budget....Blue Jeans cable makes an excellent affordable subwoofer cable that I use in my system.

Thanks sonicxtc, I’ve had others who also recommended the blue jeans cable.  Very inexpensive, with several recommendations from others, and a good return policy.  This is probably the one I will try first.
Also, I didn’t think that the difference (in my case I need one interconnect 8’, and the other 12’) in this length would be noticeable.  However, I’ve always believed that both interconnects should be the same length.  I may just call blue Jean, and ask them as well.
Thanks again.

Don't break the bank on a subwoofer cable.  I use belden 1505 RCA cable for my dual subs.  I have not noticed any difference in sub cables.  Others may have a different experience.

Thanks Greyhound Fan.  Currently, I am using a pair of Kimber Cadence that a friend loaned me.  Sounds very good, but so many have echoed your thought.  I think I’ll try a pair of bluejean cables to compare.

Give the BJC 1505 RCA cable a try.  Also, I recommend keeping the cables the same length.  It won't make a difference with short distances but I like to keep them the same.

Greyhound,
Thanks for your suggestion about the 1505 BJC.  Do you know what the difference between the BJC LC-1 versus the 1505 is?

Greyhound,
Thanks for your suggestion about the 1505 BJC.  Do you know what the difference between the BJC LC-1 versus the 1505 is?

The 1505 has better shielding.  The LC2 has a heavier shield.  It is also a slightly smaller gauge and has a higher capacitance.

Either one will work.  I did not need the heavy shielding.  So I went with the 1505.

Here is another place to buy good cables at great prices.  I have bought various cables from this site. They will make custom lengths.

I use long runs (20 ft) of BJC LC-1 on my pair of subwoofers.  Works fine.

I wouldn't fret too much about sonic differences between these cables for LF duty.  Just get something decent from a reliable mfr.

I also use 1694 coax, some BJC, some home made.  One thing to note: I really don't like the rca connectors that BJC uses.  Nothing wrong sonically, and they are well made.  Just something about them I didn't like, sorry but I can't remember what.
