Treatment for Media Pony Wall
« on: 17 Apr 2025, 07:29 am »
Hi folks
Looking for some advice on treatment inside a media 'pony wall', the ceiling, and the back wall.

Since building my stock XLS Encore's and dual X-Subs my circumstances have changed (kids / house / country).

I will build a media center that separates the living and dining spaces.

This media "pony wall" will house the Encores (33, 34) and X-CS Center (32) with built-in grills to protect the drivers from fingers/crayons/etc.

X-On Walls (35, 36) and X-Subs (30, 31) will go on the back wall with the sofa (27).

Questions that come to mind:

1. Should I treat the insides of the media center where the Encores will sit to avoid reflections from the side, if so, how?

2. Should I leave the back of the media center open for the Encores?

3. Should I treat the ceiling as I understand the X-On Walls are tuned with ceiling reflections in mind?

4. Should I treat the back wall at floor level for the X-Subs (I plan on treating the back wall above the sofa)?

All advice must appreciated  :)

I think leaving the back open would work better, but the setup is compromised regarding performance of the speakers. I’m pretty sure having the Speakers in plane with the tv and in the cabinet will degrade the bass, soundstage and imaging capabilities, but probably sound okay otherwise.
