Upgrade from Alps RK11
« on: 5 Sep 2024, 05:02 pm »
My amp has RK11 potentiometer 50k version:

https://tech.alpsalpine.com/e/products/category/potentiometers/sub/02/series/rk11k/

I want to replace it with a supposed higher end potentiometer and purchased this:

https://partsconnexion.com/tkd-potentiometer-10k-2cp-601s-series-6r25-log-taper-stepped/

However, I just learned these two are not compatible.

Any suggestion as to what might be an upgrade to the RK11 yet compatible in form factor?  I am told it's a horizonal wafer.

Thanks.

What amp do you have?

How about this?

Hello navi:

From the Newark Farnell website,...

'The RK11K1120A4C is a 10kΩ 50mW 1-turn 1-gang horizontal mounting Rotary Potentiometer with screwdriver slot and logarithmic track taper. This is a RK11K series rotary potentiometer features sealed units for flow soldering and bush mounting for overall stability.'

The TKD is logarithmic also. Can you return the 10k TKD for a refund? (Realize it may not be cost effective in terms of the return shipping and just may be easier to order the 50k one elsewhere (and offer the 10k to others with the stipulation of shipping onus is on the receiver/recipient).)

Um, not entirely sure but one may be able to solder a 40k ohm resistor in series (one for each channel, i.e., left and right) to obtain the equivalent value of 50k ohms.

Thanks.

Sincerely,
Kingsley.

I built a Pass Labs B1 preamp/buffer, initially with the Alps remote volume control and then bought a TKD remote volume pot.  The TKD had more detail but was terribly bright sounding.  We ended up going back to the Blue Alps.

I would be happy to sell it to you if I can find it.  Let me know.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  I have two TKD pots to unload atm.  So, don't need another.  Good to know that it does change the sound from Alps which is what I was looking for though don't want a strident sound.
