I got into hifi a couple of years ago, and now I have everything I want, but I spend a lot of time second guessing various owned components. I'm currently trying to decide whether to give up on my active speakers in favour of a more conventional speaker-amp set-up. Happy to be here!

Welcome!

Never heard of someone going from active back down to passive speakers.  Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.  Professional actives can sound sterile/dry/analytical to better serve in recording/mastering studios.  Consumer/cheaper actives sound more similar to passives.  The best all around speaker I've ever heard/owned were JBL 708P actives.  Currently own Buchardt A500SE's (wireless, using Purifi mid/woofers - one front/one rear, includes room EQ and Master Tunings).

Haha, sounds like we've joined the right club! I'm always either second-guessing, daydreaming, or chasing after what I think I need next...until the next review I read and then I want THAT one. JLM mentions the Buchardt actives, which Jon Darko LOVES. That's one direction to go and seems to provide everything a modern (even Aspirant) audiophile should want with room correction, etc. It may not scratch the itch of building a synergistic system on your own, but I realize I spend most of my time "researching" anyway, rather than actually buying, building, and trying to get rid of the latest and greatest gear.
