Any thoughts on the VR-6?
« on: 29 May 2024, 02:37 am »
Hey everybody, I'm considering purchasing a set of VSA VR-6's but there seems to be a real paucity of reviews on these speakers. Does anybody here have any thoughts on these?

I'm currently running B&W 801F's from a Threshold S/550e and SL-10. I primarily listen to rock, heavy rock, metal, punk, etc., which means that very frequently I'm playing some not-so-great recordings. What I love about my 801F's is their ability to really nail the tone and timbre of electric guitar, especially distorted guitar. On top of that, I love the huge soundstage, pinpoint imaging, strong instrument separation and thickness of the sound.

From the few reviews I've found online, it seems that people have dinged the VR-6's for the tonal quality of their midrange and have mentioned the tweeters being a bit bright and hard to tame. If there's three things I can't stand in a speaker it's poor timber in the midrange, brightness and thin sound. I've been looking to try a more "modern" speaker (although these are getting to be vintage at this point) and these look interesting, but will these work for my taste?
