Hi there - another newbie here
« on: 20 Apr 2023, 09:31 pm »
Hi everyone and greetings from sunny England (… a rare occurrence from this part of the world )
Just starting to get the hang of navigating my way around AC - wow, this is a great forum and there is so much to go at,
I guess the main reason that I joined was as a result of a recent acquisition - a pair of Hyperion speakers and wanting to find out more about them - eg/ what have been or are peoples experiences with matching amplification - valve (what type) or s/s etc
Been into this crazy hobby for around 40 years and it still feels as fresh as it did when I first started. I suspect that like many of you, this has all broadened my musical tastes - which just seem to get broader each year - I guess that is what quality audio reproduction does for a lot of us?
I’m also really interested to hear how peoples practical circumstances (room sizes, budgets, priorities etc ) have affected the directions which they have subsequently  taken - certainly insofar as equipment choices have been concerned. For example, what single piece of equipment would you never part with ever and why - is it for logical, sentimental, or practical reasons … or maybe it’s a bit of everything ? …

If this Hyperion has a benign 8Ω and hi sensitivity over 98dB you can allow yourself choose among the best low wattage SETs amps to sweet your musical life.

This is the Hyperion 938 Circle:

Hi Guys - and thanks for the friendly welcome.

FullRangeMan - thanks for the link to the circle.

… as far as I can tell, and as you state, the Hyperion is a fairly benign load at 8ohms nominal however the sensitivity is significantly less at the 90dB level or thereabouts .My push-pull EL34 Unison Research Amp drives the Hyperion very nicely with its 30 or thereabouts watts per channel.

However I would love to listen to them with a nice SET … expect it may need to be an 845 amp tho’ - or possibly paralleled 300B ‘s. The Hyperions have a beautiful high and mid frequency character that would complement the SET strengths really nicely but an 8dB/w/M discrepancy with my pp might be too big an ask..!
I guess only one way to find out tho …
