I need help : Wrapping Dual Subs
« on: 23 Feb 2023, 06:00 am »
I’m gonna move my H Frames into the living room out of the man cave. They are painted black with the curated and need a serious style upgrade. I’d like to wrap them to add a bit of flare to my living room and yet I’m not a DIYer and need help.  What would be the easiest way to go about this?  Can I wrap over the curated or do I need to do anything?  Any advice on best wrap material?  Any one in Arizona wanna help ?  TIA.

Morganc,

I am not sure what curated is? Is it Duratex? Do you have pictures you can share?

Thank you, Kelly

If you were to sand them super smooth, you should be able to wrap in whatever you'd like. But it'll take rolling up your sleeves and likely some ibuprofen. What are you wanting to wrap them with? Vinyl like a car wrap or with veneer? You could always just paint them to look cool too. Wouldn't diminish the amount of sanding required (likely would increase it) but they'd look freakin awesome. Food for thought.  IF you decide paint is where you want to venture, hit me up and I'll walk you through the whole thing.

Seems to me the easiest way to 'wrap' them would be with some acoustically transparent fabric, colored or black like speaker grill material.  That would certainly class up the look of an industrial Duratex finish.

You could use the Vandersteen speaker line as inspiration. Here’s their Sub 3…

I think this is an excellent solution. Here is a pic of a down firing sub I covered in speaker grill cloth. I built this for a friend and after his teenage kids kicked the crap out of the oak veneer I needed an easy way to make it look good again. After making a speaker grill cloth sock I slid the sock over the sub and added a wood cap and wood edging on the bottom.
