2 x 7B3 or 2 x 4b3 in bridge mode
« on: 23 Dec 2022, 10:05 am »
Hello

At the moment i have a 4b3 and quite happy with it. but thinking about a little more power to the speakers, (T+A Creterion 2e) So buy an extra 4b3 and put it in bridge mode or exchange everything for 2 x 7b3. I understand that supplying power from a bridge 4b3 is different than a 7b3. Can someone explain that to me?

I think in general when you bridge an amplifier it then sees speakers at half their rated ohm value so if you have 4 ohm speakers a bridged 4B will see it as a 2 ohm load and can well strain the amp. You will be better served by getting a pair of 7Bs . I speak from some experience having owned a 4bst, 14Bsst and 7B2 amps in the past. The one thing I noticed when I moved from the 4B to 14B was how much more detail was conveyed at lower volumes. As is always the case YMMV....

I also agree that for your speakers, it is probably best to get a pair of 7B3 instead of running a pair of 4B3 in bridged mode.
