Another T-Amp Review from TNT

All:
Carlo Morsiani of turntable fame has done a short review of the T-Amp driving three different transducers. Interesting.

His site is a treat, also:

A good read, and interesting to find another Sugden user, who really liked the Tripath sound too!

All:
Reading Carlo's review reminded me of something I'd been meaning to try: to wit, additional capacitance across the pos and neg legs of the supply. Batteries don't deliver power as quickly as caps. I paralleled 3 25 v. 1800 uf Panasonic FC's and clipped them on the battery. It's well worth trying:faster, more bass impact. What I didn't expect was increased micro detail and a deeper sound stage.
I think a better solution would be a 10k-20k cap close to (or on) the board. Gotta try it.

I agree with you on the cap improvements.  I connected a 4700/35 watt BG that I had other plans for but I can't get myself to remove it.

I am not sure what is more unbelievable: that so much detail exists in recordings or the ability of the modded T's to retrieve them.  It's astounding how good the 2024 can sound and I don't think that it's limits have not yet been reached!

Power Supply Decoupling Caps
My modded SI is using a  54,000 ufd 4 pole Jensen cap. It is mounted close to the board, with about 2 inches of wire connecting.
I think you reach a point of diminishing returns quickly on this. The smaller value caps soldered directly to the power pins seem to have a larger effect on the sonics.
What I get from the Jensen cap is that it filters the grounds. The T networking helps keep ground hash from passing through.
My wallwart sounds like a SLA with the 4 pole cap decoupling both. The battery used had about a foot of connecting wire. This most likely reduced the big impact battery power can bring.

I agree with George. Batteries are good, but they need caps. Getting hi quality caps right on, or next to, the PCB is key.

So George, you think that you have reached to point of diminishing returns, eh?  Makes sense.

I read Carlo's review. Good stuff, nice guy. We've traded a few emails. He has quite a set up at home. Can't wait to see what he does with the modifications.
