  • I reject your music, and substitute my own.
Why are we complaining about how certain singers sing?

Megadeth, Dire Straights, and B52's rocks.

Could they have inspired Rap?

I just listened to Megadeth's "The Sick the Dying and the Dead" and just thought about how many 'singers' who actually 'talk-sing' (a new word I just made up),who actually talk more than they actually sing, not actual singing but something in between talking and singing through their whole album......I just came up with Dave Mustaine for one,off the top of my head, but can't think of any more right now,but I know there are some more for sure...who would you say?.Thanks,Huck

After listening for a few years,I believe that at least 85% of the music is 'sung' using the "talk singing" technique,at least that's the way I hear it and it's all good.Huck :thumb:

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

The first known use of this technique was in the opera Königskinder by Engelbert Humperdinck (1897), but it is most often associated with the composers of the Second Viennese School, especially with Pierrot Lunaire, a song cycle composed by Arnold Schönberg and premiered in 1912

The Last Poets, a vocal jazz group, published songs using semi-speaking vocal performances. Later, Hip Hop culture popularized rap from the late 1970s into jazz and funk-based songs based on African musical traditions. Earlier, since the 1960s, Jamaican reggae also popularized a similar formula on typical island rhythmic bases.
