Yikes! I don't know about this one  I'd keep it the same. Simplicity is always best.

I would agree with gbaby.

My favourite style actually goes back to the 80s. I don't think you need artsy faceplates or bulky handles for the pro market as these amps usually just sit in a rack or closet.

As my first Bryston amplifier back in the 80s, a 3B, looked like this, I will always have a soft spot for that design. I always loved the professional look of Bryston amps and since the c-series is not rack mountable, I always went for the pro optics when looking for used gear.

The now legacy 3-piece faceplate has the advantage that one can replace parts of the faceplate. I had the case that the L-shaped top and bottom parts looked bad (scratched) and for aesthetic reasons I had to replace them, but the 3rd faceplate component was fine.

So every design decision has its pros and cons, I guess.

Since my amps are all from the original SST generation, luckily a retrofit is most probably impossible and since my favorite Bryston amp, the 6B, has been abandoned, there wouldn‘t even be a faceplate in the new cosmetics. ;)

Cheers!

Markus

How about a face plate without handles?  I have never been a fan of face plate handles.  Put them on the rear like Parasound and Pass.  At least for home audio consumers.

But I do prefer the new face plate.

Hi Greyhound,

The Consumer versions of the amplifiers can be purchased with no handles.

James,

I just tried to order a number of front panel parts for my 9B SST PRO amplifiers. One of them has been damaged during shipping. And I wanted to convert them to the 3 channel config, as I currently don‘t need all channels. So I need three channel blanks.

The distributor for Germany, AVITech in Vienna, however,  told me that most of the needed front panel parts and the blanks were not available anymore. Did you cut all ties to your former suppliers when you decided to make the move to your in-house metal work manufacturing? Are those parts only temporarily unavailable or do you expect them to be gone for good? Will you be able to manufacture front panel spare parts for the legacy designs in the future?

Spare parts availablility is an important aspect for a brand like Bryston that has longevity, durability and sustainability as core values. ;)

Thanks!

Markus

Hi Markus,

I would assume its a temporary issue and the more custom the part the more difficult it is to get a supply of.

James,

Thanks for your reply!

We now proceeded with an order for only the items / spare parts that are in stock.

AVITech will be able to get my two 9B SST PROs up and running.

I do, however, still need the face plate parts and the channel blanks, that, according to info from Mike, are not available. Will you restock those parts anyway or would you need an order (directly or through AVITech) to trigger the procurement of the parts on your side?

Thanks!

Markus

That is the reason why I need a new faceplate… in its current state, I can‘t even rack mount the beast…

So my advice would be to ALWAYS use the original box when shipping a Bryston product. Unfortunately, very often when purchasing used, the seller does not have the original box and the probability of the amp being damaged during shipping is relatively high, even if the seller uses packaging foam to protect the amp, as was the case with my amp shown above.

The shipping companies hire low-brow people who could care less about not damaging your stuff.  Hopefully whoever shipped it will cover the damage, but it my experience both fedex and UPS will try to weasel out of paying.  I've had stuff take impacts in factory boxes.

Considering how tough those face plates are... did somebody drive a forklift into it?
(don't laugh, I've had big audio packages literally punctured this way)

I think they just dropped the parcel, that’s at least what the box looked like on closer inspection. As I learned in school, metal flows under pressure… that is what might have happened here.
