If you’re swapping amps around with QUAD ESL-57’s, can the Quads be left plugged in with the speaker cable being unattached? Of course, any amp in question would be non powered at the time.

You should be fine.  Just be sure to follow the steps religiously and don't for get to turn down the preamp volume each time as well.
