Introduction and Current System

New to Audio Circle so just getting started.  Have been in this crazy and fun hobby of audio for some 20 years and through that time have built 5 systems.  Taken many paths: originally a quadrophonic receiver before digital was even though of, tube preamp feeding tube mono blocks driving floor standing two-ways, electrostatics driven by ultra-high current amps running on 220 volts, low-watt tube amps driving 3-way horn loaded speakers with self-powered subs, and currently a vintage Hovland HP-100 tube preamp with MC phono stage feeding a Kinki Studio EX-M7 stereo SS amp to stand-mounted 6" concentric tweeter monitors and a 15" sub.  Listen to mostly vinyl and some CDs but will eventually get into streaming.

So what sort of system do you prefer?  Does the room or possible change in musical tastes make a difference? 

My first serious system included solid state pre/power amps and large 3-way loudspeakers with transmission line bass, wonderful but the those transmission lines were too much speaker.  Shifted gears to smaller stuff before moving to a small combined audio and A/V setup.  Then got serious again, built a listening room and commissioned floor standing single driver transmission line loudspeakers.  Tried various tubes, even active monitors (which I liked), but have settled on class D, streaming, and those commissioned loudspeakers as the best sound/lifestyle for me.  Currently am hooked on a commercial free 128 kps web radio station of laid back jazz.

Sounds like you have an eclectic taste in equipment and a somewhat long journey in your musical appreciation JLM.  I always like the speed of electrostatics and the holographic experience of tubes.  Here's what I'm thinking my next system may be: Spatial Audio X5s, Atma-Shere MP3 preamp and S30 amp.  Though my dedicated listening room is somewhat narrow (11' 4") wide it's 19' deep and allows me to keep the speakers well away from the front wall.  From what I've read about Clayton's X5s, they aren't particularly fussy about being a little closer to the side walls and I will treat the walls as well.

Thanks to all for the welcome.  I have some questions that I'm hoping some of the Audio Circle members can help me with regarding Spatial Audio and their X series.
