Encore X-LS, Improvement for Phono?
« on: 17 Feb 2022, 02:30 am »
I have a Marantz NR1403, and the Energy Take 5 Speakers, TK-CLASSI-5-1.  They sound good for movies, and digital audio I send to the receiver through the TV, youtube music etc.

I am hoping that replacing my small front Energy Speakers with the Encore X-LS I will have a major improvement.  I have tried two different turntables, an older Kenwood with a ifi zen Phono preamp, and recently we got a Denon DP300F, with a Denon dp300f with Ortofon 2M Red Catridge.  My problem is that the sound is low, instead of higher when watching tv's or digital audio.  Using the builtin preamp on the Denon, do not have the ifi any longer.

How can I really get the speakers singing?  Newer speakers?  I ordered the Encore X-LS from Danny, do I need a better turntable, or preamp?

Maybe I should breakdown and get a better turntable, but the cost was nice and it fits in the shelving well etc.

The turntable is a bit frustrating to me.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Speakers will always be the biggest determinant of sound quality in your system.  The Encore's are a no-joke high performance speaker, the Energy speakers are fine but not in the same league.
