Hello,
I am introducing myself after years of casual lurking within AC I wish to officially register and hopefully get information on the topic at hand. I am looking for ANY information on my first set of real speakers that I purchased in Phoenix in 1994-1995 era. They are the either the last -or at least one of the last- Dahlquist offerings to the US market before company quietly disappeared into the night. These are the boxed speaker modular system called the
Prelude Series. I have the top monitor/ woofer base combination available at the time. Its the
CA2 monitor (MTM design x2 6 inch drivers plus ferro fluid soft dome tweet) stacked and then wired to their matching woofer base the
W2, (x2 8 inch woofers). Mid and bass drivers are
Vifa paper ,
Audiosphere is stamped on back of magnets. The
Ca2/W2 combo is ported (plugs provided) with HEAVY DUTY internal bracing PLUS interior walls of monitor filled to brim with lead shot. Dual CA2/W2 binding posts provides unique style of wiring possibilities when joining the two together.Impossible to carry easily let alone ship out. Though rare and very little written on, these speakers have been awesome. But with 30 years behind them, I feel upgrading the crossovers/caps, fixing overtaxed and overdriven inductors(visibly burnt), and possibly dampening internal cabinets would be worth the effort. So looking for any other owners, schematics on crossovers ect. Basically ANY input! Finally , I am curious if anyone has thoughts on the
minimum upgrading that I should undertake on the infamous
John Curl/Richard Crump Parasound HCA 3500 monster amp. Anything beyond replacing that one 47k resistor with an old HOLCO.
thanks!
