International audition and return

I’m very interested in hearing the x4’s. Living in Canada, I’m wondering if anyone has auditioned and then decided to return a pair of spatial audio speakers back into the states and what hassle it would entail if I was not satisfied with their performance compared to my current speakers.

The same hassle of shipping anything back. Packing having them picked up and returned. Plus the cost of shipping them back. The thing is they will need a lot of playing time before you can make a fair decision. That has been said over and over and over here. Great speakers give them a go.

The main hassle is dealing with Customs at the border. There is some paperwork needed and fees required. I had a pair of Morrison speakers shipped to me from Toronto. They were shipped together. One cleared Customs with no problem, the other required additional paperwork. Go figure! And each speaker went a separate route and arrived a day apart. Everything ended well but there definitely was some stress involved. The good news is that it's very unlikely that you would not like, and need to return them.

Easiest would just to be sell them locally if they do not work out. Resell value on X Series is close to MSRP these days.

Thanks for the info, tips. Resell will probably be the least hassle, if not keeping them.

I am in Toronto and own a pair of M3 Sapphires. They came in three boxes, palletized. Getting them was a piece of cake but returning them would probably require a transport company, which would probably require setting up an account.

I never thought I would send 'em back if I didn't like them. Always thought I would sell them locally, knowing that I would take a financial hit. The good news is that the speakers are so good that, along with my Pass Labs Class A amp, I will likely be buried with them. In fact, maybe they could use the baffles for the coffin.

Great speakers. If you are in the GTA, you could listen to mine before committing.

I have been saving the boxes from my X5's but they are in my garage and take up the space of a Prius. I will probably never get another pair of speakers but might need to move some day and so will keep the boxes.

OP. You might want to start a new thread asking if anyone near Toronto has a pair that you could come listen to. Chances are good that someone does. Heck, you could even drive to New England to audition some. You could even call Clayton to see if he could arrange a "play date" with someone near you...

Good idea. Buffalo and even Rochester, NY are a relatively short drive away from Toronto. And there are a good number of audiophiles in Rochester so your chances are good.

For my American friends, "GTA" is an acronym for Greater Toronto Area. I live in Toronto.

Thanks. I now realize that OP did not specify his location and I was thinking of your post from GTA :-)

A number of years ago I purchased Reference 3A Grand Veenas for audition. They are Canadian, and I live in NY. I decided to send them back, and it is definitely a hassle, as mentioned. I don’t know if things work the same way in returning something to the U.S., but the paperwork was crazy- my social security number was required in triplicate on paperwork attached to the outside of the shipping boxes. It was a VERY uncomfortable experience, and not cheap either.
I’d try a local or across the border audition as mentioned.
Spatials are a great speaker, and most likely you’ll enjoy them, but since you’re question was regarding the return process, I thought I’d share.

Shipping to Canada is a nightmare. Sold 3 items and all 3 times major hold up, customs issues with value even damaged a unit going into the box to see what it was. Never ever again.

When Clayton shipped my speakers using a commercial trucking outfit the process couldn't have been easier. They took care of the brokerage. All I had to do was make sure I was home when they were delivered. And the cost was very reasonable. As an individual without a brokerage firm working directly for you (like the trucking company Spatial used), I agree, it can be a nightmare. But as I said, nobody in Canada should hesitate in ordering speakers from Clayton. He's got it all figured out.

I would really like to take you up on your offer and listen to the M3s, even though I am aiming for the M4s...
