Olive Musica with updated 1TB SSD - sold!
« on: 25 Nov 2021, 01:03 am »
SOLD-SOLD!

The Olive Musica, also known as the Olive Symphony or Opus no.3, was Olive’s best and most successful music server. The Musica in this ad is in excellent condition and has been upgraded to make it even better…

Price is $400 plus shipping.

Since 2006, I have relied on these source devices to access my entire CD collection. During this time, the Musica would become one of my favorite pieces of audio equipment. First, there’s the convenience of being able to wirelessly access hundreds of CDs ripped to the Olive’s internal hard drive using a browser and the Olive web interface (no app needed). But what really hooked me was how great the Olive Musica sounds. I eventually ripped 400 CDs to WAV and FLAC files all loaded on the Musica.

In fact, I liked the Olive Musica so much that after a few years I decided to replace the clunky 250Gb spinning platter drive (HDD) with a sleek 1TB solid state drive (SSD). After that simple mod, the Musica ran faster, quieter, and cooler. Importantly, the upgrade also made ripping CDs essentially limitless (allowing well over 2,500 CDs). The units in this ad both have this upgrade. I also dampened the chassis and added RFI protection on the circuit board. This was accomplished using materials that I purchased from Mike Powell at Verastarr.

Although the builtin Apple CDROM drive allows ripping to the Olive’s internal storage, I found it easiest to use dBpoweramp to rip to an external drive that serves as a backup for the Olive and then just copy over the files. For example, you can connect a portable USB drive to one of two ports on the Olive’s rear panel and use the front-panel jog wheel to import albums or songs. Of course, you can still use the Olive’s CD player to spin disks, but once you’ve played music from a well-engineered music server, you too will be pleased with the switch.

The Olive Musica has gold-plated RCA jacks on the rear panel to connect your preamp or integrated amp. But as a bonus, not found on later Olive music servers, you can optionally connect to your favorite DAC by using the Olive’s RCA or toslink S/PDIF digital outputs. This is the way I have always used my Olive music servers. Then, accessing your music from the web interface is as simple as pointing a browser to the IP address you assign the Musica on your home network.

In summary, the Olive Musica equipped with a 1TB SSD gives the music lover the ability to use a browser on a phone or tablet to play the equivalent of over 2,500 CDs. The sonic quality of the builtin DAC is excellent itself possessing a warm, dynamic, nuanced sound but the device lets you add your favorite DAC to achieve the sound you prefer.

Manual online, but you will receive the original PDF:

I have two Olive Musica music servers for sale! One in black and the other in silver. Both have the upgraded internal SSD. Includes the original very nice remote control and C8 power cord. Please note that Olive is out of business so the Internet radio function is no longer available. Loaded with music - you can delete if you like. As for condition, you may find a few marks on the top case but, everywhere else is in great condition. I do not have the original box. Manual is a PDF.

Thanks for your inquiry about these modded Olive Musica. They found good homes recently, and I've updated the post to show sold.
