Interconnect Neophyte question
« on: 2 Apr 2005, 04:16 am »
I have recently upgraded my system and now run a Linn SC direct into Bryston 7BST monoblocks which drive PMC IB1 speakers. At a friends suggestion I replaced my Transparent Link 200 interconnects (1 metre pair) with a 1 metre pair of Van Den Hul cables with Vampire connectors. I'm convinced I hear a significant difference (the best I can describe it...the "inside" of the music suddenly sounds lively and I seem to hear more detail) but am ever cautious about my own ability to bamboozle myself with wishful/deluded thinking. Would it be reasonable to hear a difference, and are the Van Den Huls better cables than the Transparents?

Another question altogether...what interconnects would be a good match for this system, and how much should I be spending on interconnects for a system of this standard? I listen to 80% jazz and classical, the rest blues.

Thanks for your assistance.

Sure you might be hearing a difference from different ICs. One interesting test, if you happen to have a friend with a capacitance meter, would be to compare the cable capacitances. I once checked a 1 meter pair and got 470pf, pretty high. Other brands may be as low as 30pf/meter.

Can't recommend what cables to use. Others may have a better idea.
