Good day to all forumites
I am from Kimberley, South Africa, and have been a music and hi-fi nut for over 30 years (probably going on for near 40 years, but who's counting). Working in South Africa my salary, and therefore budget, is pretty low compared to most people, but I have managed to pick up several bargains on a local forum. I did a search for a GR Research forum after watching a YouTube video by Danny Ritchie, and here I am.
My system is relatively simple, but it is what I managed to build up over the years. Actually I have two systems, my main 2-channel system (in my tiny study) and an AV system (in the lounge/TV-room). They are as follows:
2-channel system:
Modified Lenco turntable, with a SME 3009 mk.II Improved (fixed headshell) tonearm with an AT95 cartridge (I hope to improve the cartridge in due course)
DIY phono preamp
Proceed PDT3 transport
Nuforce MSR-1 server
Theta ProPrime DAC (modified to accept three co-ax inputs, no optical)
Nuforce P-8 preamp
DIY Sure T-amp power amp mono-blocks (with linear PSUs)
Miller and Kriesel Satellite 1 speakers on home-made stands (4" diameter steel pipes, filled with silica sand and kitty-litter sand)
Ruark Logrhythm sub
AV system:
Pioneer CLD-99 laserdisc player
Technics AC-3 decoder (can't remember the model name)
Cambridge 650 blu-ray player
NAD T175 AV preamp
BGW 750B power amp (for front speakers)
Rotel RA985 5-channel amp for surround speakers
QSC UAS 1300 power amp for the subwoofers
Acoustic Research AR91 speakers for the fronts (wall-mounted)
Acoustic Research AR17 and AR28LS for surrounds
Acoustic Research AR8LS for centre speaker
Subs are under construction, but will be 12" woofers (still undecided which to buy) in Tannoy Berkeley equivalent cabinets, placed below the wall-mounted AR91.
Well, that's me.
All of the best,
Deon
