Paint shops in Colorado
« on: 3 Jan 2022, 06:36 pm »
Alrighty folks. I am now sitting in a U-Haul at the auto shop that was supposed to paint my speakers who now say they can't do it. Apparently the guy I was emailing with never actually had the head.of painting look at my photos, and the guy doesn't think they can do it.

I am left with the options of:
1 - find a new paint shop in Colorado who can do 4 speakers that are 7 feet tall
2 - take on painting these myself
3 - take on veneering them myself

Has anyone on here dealt with an ambitious paint shop or specialty shop in colorado to keep option 1 open? Otherwise, I need to start figuring out 2 or 3

Hi Noah,
For finding shops that would be willing to take on these projects, I'd suggest calling smaller hot-rod shops rather than your main collision centers. Those guys make more money slamming out bumpers than anything else, and in Colorado snowy season business is booming. Also check with local automotive paint stores to see if they gave any recommendations. They'll for sure know the local clientele and who does good work. If you have any questions feel free to reach out.

It is something you could do yourself, but you'd be waiting til April or May to do it.

Another option is a cabinet shop. I'm having a local cabinet shop do my spray finishes until I can get back into a decent paint booth.

That's actually a good point. Those guys are not scared by big sized projects either so the fact your speakers rivel the Chrysler Building in height should be no big deal.

Contact the Sherwin Williams Commercial dealer rep to find out who is buying the Sher-Wood Kemvar Conversion Varnish.
Hardwood and plywood distributors (not Home Depot) could give you a list of reputable custom wood shops with a spray booth. If a guy tells you he shoots conversion varnish in his garage all the time, skip him, he is brain dead.

Professionals will charge you $65-$125/hour if they have the time. Everyone I know has a year backlog.

the guy doesn't think they can do it.

Offer to pay him double.

NoahH, I can ask a contact I have in the finishing industry for paint shop suggestions. Colorado is a big place, shall we narrow it down by the region where you live? Or anywhere in the state if its a quality shop?
