does the dva m225 use negative feedback?
« on: 5 Nov 2021, 03:16 pm »
please dont flame me. someone had said vandersteens work better if the amp doesn't use negative feedback. vandersteen are one of the speakers that I am looking to purchase (3a signature, treo, or gershman grand studio). I know that the dva m225 is a good amp. haven't heard it in person, just from reviews

Yes, the M225 does use feedback, but not the way that is typical and it has no negative affect on audio performance or it’s interface with the speaker.

Everything in the amplifier is our unique design to perfectly reproduce the input music signal.  All the rave comments we are getting says the M225 design is doing this extraordinarily well.

This is not to flame you! I do find the statement by someone else, "Vandersteens work better if the amp doesn't use negative feedback" to be dubious at best and ridiculous at worst. For several reasons.
  • There is someone in audio who will say anything. Even more so on forums!
  • I've heard Vandersteens with amps with negative feedback, and they sounded great.
  • Why wouldn't they? Negative feedback is a well established principle of circuit design, and if implemented well, it does not cause sonic problems. While some amp designers feel they can do better without it, that is hardly a universal decision nor applicable to any speakers in particular.
That's my point of view, anyway. Oh, and I can add, one of the best and most cost-effective amps I've owned was one from AVA.

Whatever you choose, I hope you have fun!
