Help please with Sub Amp settings
« on: 19 Oct 2021, 12:45 am »
Help!  I can never find the diagram for the starting amp settings that Danny suggests for the dual servo OB. I just moved and the knobs were all moved.  Anyone got a good starting point for the settings?
Thanks,
Morgan

Not a diagram but this primer from Danny might help:

Always a good idea to take a photo of the subwoofer amp settings with your smartphone once you've got them dialed in. Then you can always get back to a baseline if you decide to play around with the settings.

Agreed!  And hasn’t someone else done this and can share?  I remember an old thread with the starting point settings but now can’t find it.

Here's how I have one set. The other channel is the same except for small differences in the PEQ settings. I set up my system using REW.

From learning how to setup and integrate a sub it's impossible to say where to start.  From the last pic my settings are way different. From the left sub amp to the right sub amp the settings are different to as each speakers -3db point is not the same in my room. for example on my NX-Treme the -3db point on my left was around 34hz and 47hz on the right.  i'd say the best thing to do is pickup a measurement mic and use something like REW or else it's a complete guessing game.  My audiophile OCD had a lot to do with me getting a measurement mic.  lol

Yeah, I agree that using REW is by far the easiest way to go. REW is a free download, and a calibrated mic such as the miniDSP UMIK-1 is about $140. This plugs into a pc or laptop using USB. There are less expensive options using an analog mic, but not as easy to use.

Everyone's settings are going to be different since your speaker placement, room dimensions, acoustic treatments, etc, are going to be different. The position of the sub relative to the main speaker is also going to significantly affect the settings. Even the cables you use are going to have a small effect.

My room is fairly symmetrical, so left and right settings aren't drastically different, but they still vary a little bit - the PEQ a bit more than the crossover settings.

Early B.

True. Even cable changes require fiddling with the sub amp settings. In fact, you can get really OCD and change the settings for each recording or by song. It's amazing how much of a difference a flip of the extension filter switch can make from low to mid, for instance.

Even though everyone is going to end up at different places you still need somewhere to start. There is no one right answer for this. These are the starting settings I use:

PEQ - Off

Delay/Phase - 0

Crossover - 50

Volume - 12 o'clock

Low Pass Filter - AVR/12

Rumble Filter - Off

Extension Filter -
Frequency - 14
Damping - Low

I also highly recommend getting REW and a Mic like the UMik-1

Thanks Mike.  That’s exactly what I was looking for.
