It appears the Blackbird Studio uses the same manufacturing technique, choosing a different pattern and amplitude.  That large of an amplitude has to add a lot of absorption.

The original wave pattern could also be used as an artistic scatter plate over some OC 703 with amplitude and period tuned as desired.

That's beautiful, but I'm sure there is $$$$ involved.

Deeper elements don't help, only cost material, take up space, and adds weight.  As it is, the prerecords design weight adds up (23 pounds per 18 inch square) if you consider using multiple panels.  So a nice 4.5ft x 9ft panel would weigh over 400 pounds.  But provides a solid two dimensional diffusion solution from 1000 Hz on up and a relatively easy DIY project.

The maximum depth of the wells determine the low end of the scatter and diffusion frequency ranges until practical restrictions on room size kick in.

QRDude can give you a feel for what different depths do to scatter and diffusion frequency ranges on 1D and 2D diffusers by entering different well depths.

That would probably use a lot of "toner" =).   

Don't know if would be cost effective, but with the inflated cost of building materials this year, the delta maybe smaller.
