Finally hearing some x5 tomorrow!
« on: 24 Sep 2021, 09:59 pm »
Any suggestions other than play a lot of music that I am familiar with? I am bringing along my gold note ds10 to stream...

1. Enjoy the music.
2. The detail in the high end.
3. Bass integration to the sound stage

I'm really hoping that they blow me away and aren't too bright. I do like detail,  though

Hopefully the speakers you will hear are burned-in and the room is a good room acoustically. Any system is only as good as the room it is in.

Remember these are designed to be tunable to your preferences.  If you want more highs/detail, point the tweeters more toward your ears.  If you want less, point the speakers more straight ahead.

And with bass, if it's too light, turn up the bass volume.  Or if the bass is over powering, just turn it down.

Good advice! Thank you

And a few hundred hours of break in

A requirement like that is a prescription for disappointment. Go in with an open mind. Pick at least one recording that you know like the back of your hand. It doesn't have to be the greatest recording of all time- just something very familiar. In my case, that recording is Miles Davis' 'Kind of Blue'. I have listened to it more times than I can count, on everything from IEMs plugged into my phone, to big horn loaded floorstanders driven by OTL tube amps. There are  'better' recordings but the high familiarity helps me form quick impressions about the signature of a system. Pick another based o pure audio quality. Pick a few to just 'wing it' and different genres if you have wide-ranging tastes. That's about it.

I have some that I know well that are for my enjoyment from multiple music styles. I have some others that I enjoy but are more for something specific (detail, treble, etc)

I'm just saying, 'blown away' is a very high bar, especially after literally 50yrs in the hobby. I will say though, of the systems that have, almost none have been megabuck 'deep end' systems. I have been quite impressed with the Spatials I've heard.

Tyson, this is my experience with the X3s.  I never heard of the AMT (waveguide) drivers described as "tunable".  But, you are correct, they are tunable.  I've rotated them closer to straight ahead to tone down brightness.  The description of the driver makes me think they need a lot of break-in.  With more than 250 hours on mine, the AMT seems much more balanced with the mid and bass drivers.  Also, I've slowly reduced sub amplification.  Currently two notches below max output.
