Pairing Subwoofer(s) with X-Statics
« on: 27 Aug 2021, 02:16 am »
Hi All

Just finishing up building a pair of X-Statics and have enjoyed learning all the skills necessary in build process.  Now I am getting ready to order the next parts of my Surround system.  I will be ordering the X-Voce center channel but am not sure what to do about the subs.

My room is 15' x 23' x 8' and I am more concerned about the speakers as part of a multi-channel music setup, though they will also be used for tv/movies.  I understand my options run from a single servo sub 2 to a pair of servo sub 4 speakers (I can really justify more cash than that).  Is more always better or will a single or pair of servo sub 2 speakers suffice?  Also what about open baffle vs closed cabinets?  I did watch the 'fast bass' video but have seen conflicting stuff from other audiophile types (Can't we just all agree :D).

In the end I don't want to break the bank but also don't want to be disappointed when I get this build all done.  Good-natured experienced advice gratefully accepted.

I’ll follow this thread…

I have a couple of subwoofers… that work fine for movies…

The X-statics do fine in stereo mode… the bass is wonderful for most music… hiphop & some pop song excepted…

I’m thinking of just getting the dual servo sub…  use LFE as input…

But, should I get 2 singles & feed stereo?   Cost is about the same…. This config I could use the existing subwoofers as LFE input…

The servo subs would then be used for music too…

Simpler question…

Dual servo sub vs 2x singles?

I have the setup you're looking for.  At first, I wasn't so sure about the servo subs (open baffle) compared to sealed subs, and I have to say I was dead wrong about those concerns.   I'm using the LFE inputs on the Servo Sub 4s at the moment with possibility of switching to the high-level at some point, but for now I can say this is the BEST sounding theater I've ever configured.    I had a guest over the weekend who said that my sound system rivaled a $500,000.00+ installation he contracted (he was the contractor for the theater, four rows of four seats, but pulled in an outside company to do the electronics).   That was the best feedback I could have ever gotten, and I'm not even done with it yet!   I still need to build and install the A/V-1RS speakers.

So you can't go wrong with Servo Sub 4 kits.   Amazing.   Worth every penny (and the time it took to build them).

Waiting to be built:

EDIT:  Side note, my room dimensions are similar to yours, so the only thing I would consider eliminating are the ceiling speakers.   My ceiling is 9' with a 12" riser.   An 8' ceiling might be too low for a 12" riser depending on how many rows of seats you're planning.

Thanks Vince.  Your system looks like what I am trying to achieve.
