Hello from North Carolina
« on: 16 Aug 2021, 11:34 am »
Well, I’ve been browsing these forums for a long time.  I decided to finally register.  My background is varied, at best...  I started in the audio world, as a teenager.  I’m now 55!

I have fallen deep into the equipment of the month club, over the years.  Once I realized that I needed to take what I had and tweak for better sound, I started to enjoy listening to music again (music is what it’s about, right?).

My system is: Tidal and Quboz > Roon > MacBook Pro > Schiit Modi 3 > Rega Brio > ADS 780/2.  All my wiring is using the Helix Image (build your own). Isolation under everything.

I am moving on pass the tweaking to component changes.  Also, I have a real fondness to what GR Research is doing; however, I love what my ADS speakers do from a voicing standpoint, that I just don’t know whether I want to mess that up.

I plan on learning, sharing, and continuing to read people’s thoughts to see what can apply to me.  Happy to be here!

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Welcome to AC  :thumb:
With me it was even worse I was a firm believer in audio magazines and for over 30 years I believed that live music was the best benchmark for home audio and during all his time I bought hundreds of magazines that I treated as if they were commandments  :duh: :duh:

I'm known to be blunt, so here goes -- an entry-level GR Research kit will destroy your ADS and dramatically elevate your entire system. It's time to take the plunge.

Well, I would say that’s blunt, for sure...  8)

So, I don’t want big speakers, as I prefer monitors..  which GR Research model would you point me to?  The ADS have 8” woofers and play reasonable base (I know, not deep base).

Put the NX Studio monitors on your fall weather wish list -- https://www.gr-research.com/store/p14/NX-Studio.html

You can add a sub later.
