Ooh, ooh!  I change my vote.  I just remembered Dusty Springfield's  "The Look of Love" from the old Casino Royale soundtrack.  And it's also on a famously audiophile recording.

Hey!

That's a great one. Been covered by many others also.

Hey!

Believe it or not I've never seen the movie. But I like the soundtrack album, some great tracks. Love Alison Krauss' "This Time the Dream's On Me" on this one.

In '73 we Hendrix fans were eager for more material from our idol, having bought CoL, Rainbow Bridge, In The West and War Heroes we thirsted for more. Saw this film as first run, then traveled to catch midnight screenings (remember those?) whenever possible, of course had to have the album as well. The acoustic "Hear My Train A Comin" (and iconic image on cover) always did it for me and still does.........

Mine would have to be Desmond Dekker & The Aces - "Israelites" from Drugstore Cowboy. Watching Matt Dillon ride around the countryside stoned out of his head to this song made for a good visual to go along with this perky Jamaican tune.

I searched EVERYWHERE for that soundtrack back in the '80's, just for that song!

My wife and I loved the recordings used in "When Harry Met Sally," so much so that we actually went from the theater directly to a record store to buy the soundtrack, only to find when we got home that it was largely a Harry Connick, Jr., album and not the original artists used in the movie. It was the only time in my life that a record store ever let me return an opened recording. They said they'd been getting swamped with complaints about it.

Bond movies deserve their own thread, but:

Quite by accident I import loaded "At The Movies' folder from my USB stick (was trying to load Echoes- Pink Floyd) to Amazon HD. And it has been playing movie soundtracks non-stop for 8 hours now because I have the Autoplay setting On. I slept through most of it because I was using the music to fall asleep after I got home from an 8 hour shift. Some good stuff though, much different than listening to Pop music. 8)

I was about to name “the Commitments” until I thought of “Stop Making Sense” by Talking Heads. Seems to be the ultimate soundtrack.
