Neo 8 And Neo 3
« on: 26 May 2021, 02:41 am »
Hello I am Conrad and new here I have spent the last few months reading different speaker build projects here. There is a great wealth of information here. I have acquired some Neo3 and neo8 planars new for a good price. I plan on building some in wall similar to the Martin Logan Voyage in wall speakers using these drivers mating with dual Dayton RS225 8 ohm woofers. I had five of these in a home in the past which I love and they use dual Neo8 a single Neo3 and two 8 inch woofer. I have been fortunate to have acquired the original Martin Logan crossover schematics for these Martin Logan Voyage which should help simply the build. My approach to the in wall is building a solid enclosure to house the drivers as it will be new construction in between 6 inch stud walls. I also have the option of using Neo3 PDR instead of neo3. This will be my very first DIY speaker project and hopefully be able to get the support of the brilliant minds here. It will be a learning curve as I educated myself using VituiCad  and all that goes into a DIY speaker build.

Dose anyone have the Neo drivers parameters and willing to share in helping with this project? Thanks in advance

Blessings.

Hi,
The Starting Block Circle is really for people to introduce themselves.
This question/thread is best posted in the GR Research Circle, so I wll move it there for you now.

The Neo 8's and Neo 3's are both tweeters. Dividing up the signal into tweeter and mid doesn't gain you anything and causes some additional issues.

The larger Neo 8 doesn't play much lower than the Neo 3. So you aren't gaining much in the way of lower range. And then crossing the two tweeter to each other at 3kHz or more pushes the acoustic centers too far apart and causes cancellation in the vertical off axis.

You are far better off using the single Neo 3 and a good woofer. And by good woofer I am not referring to the paper weight listed above. There are a lot of better options out there.

The only really good application for the Neo 8 is using a line of them in a line source where a long tweeter line is needed.
