Cpu is usually in the teens, the only thing I have running is the Bryston DP. Just curious.

Yes, BDP's start filling up the memory and they don't free it until its needed so as you listen to music it'll slowly consume it.  Then as you listen to more music it over writes the old music in memory (not to be confused with your music stored on your drives).

Does it matter how many (or the length) of songs in the playlist before it starts overwriting?

The playlist has little effect, a vast majority will be the decoded PCM and/or DSD data sent to your DAC and once memory fills up it then starts operating in a bit of a loop in the sense old data that has already been sent to the DAC gets replaced with new data to be sent to the DAC.
