Bugle Question
« on: 3 Mar 2005, 06:08 pm »
I just ordered a Bugle halk-kit and have a quick power supply question. I currently own a Channel Islands Audio VDA-1 DAC and VAC-1 power supply. The VAC-1 is a 14 volt supply. Can I use it with the Bugle?

Thanks,

Orson

Is the channel island supply AC or DC?

The Bugle uses DC, so if the CI supply is AC, then you wouldn't be able to use it.  I'm sure Jim can advise you as the to the other specs of the power supply (va, etc.) and it's compatability, but AC/DC is the first concern.

Hope this helps-
Aaron.

Bugle needs two supplies, one positive, on negative.  Values can vary anywhere from +/-5V (not too good) to +/-16V.

jh :)

I ordered two 12v 770MAH batteries to power the Bugle. I found this info on Audioasylum. Seems to me that will work well.

One question I have about this setup is what kind of wire to use between the batteries and the Bugle?

Another question is can I leave a trickle charger attached to the batteries while running the Bugle?

Thanks.

I use CAT5 cable from my SLAs to the Bugle 1 pair per battery leg. I crimped, the soldered connectors. I also use a trickle charger, but not when connected to the Bugle. I plan to put the SLAs in a vented enclosure and wire them to two DIN jacks that will be switchable. I will put DIN plugs on the charger and the feed to the Bugle. All I'll have to do is throw a switch to move between operate and charge. Hope that helps
