Bingo - When I bought my VTV Purifi with Sparkos buffers the parts were about the same cost and the power supplies were out of stock at Hypex. It’s a no brainer.
Yeah, I have a few (and have sold quite a few) very nice sounding amps. I've put them into my system at times and I do find things that I like about each of them, but after listening to them for a while I keep putting the Cherry Megaschino class D amplifier back in and leaving it there for a long time. I have a sensitivity to the harsh upper midrange which gives me listening fatigue, but I do not get that fatigue from the Cherry amp. I am also a stickler for details and I have irritated my wife by playing tracks over and over again while I listen for subtle differences and details. I no longer irritate her with the monotony of repeatedly playing the same song, but now, for the first time in the forty plus years we've been married she turns on the system and plays the music she likes. She says it has never sounded as good as it does now. I think my amplifier quest has ended. Now I'll direct my efforts on improving other parts of my system.Larry D.
I have a Lyngdorf amp. I didn't think much of Class D or digital (I know D doesn't mean digital before we go there) but I went through a series of amps that I did an A-B comparison in my system, in my home, with several folks used as judges and a couple of different speakers. I was the only one that had any idea what was what. The Lyngdorf bested all comers to my amazement. Including contenders like Liner Tube Audio and Odyssey to name a couple. The only thing I found that was am equal was a Pass amp. But not better and far more expensive especially when you also have to have an external DAC with the Pass. And this includes a digital stream and analog from a pretty high quality TT, phono pre and cartridge. It's quite amazing. No... it doesn't have tube transformer warmth (distortion) if that's what you like. It simply seems to be a wire with gain adding nothing to the system except amplification with an impossibly low noise floor. It will certainly pass though anything you do upstream of it. My wife, without any knowledge of the change, immediately noticed a difference in sound when I swapped one USB cable upstream of it. What does that tell you?
I've heard many digital amps, and the latest Purifi stuff is lots better than the prior generations. But for my tastes, nothing is as good as the Digital Audio Company (DAC) amps.
Very ironic I saw this post. I am literally talking to Tommy right now about GAME ENDING amps for my system and new custom ZU Audio Dirty Weekends. I am going with a pair of MEGAschino MK2 monoblocks.I am right there with you Tyson. I have heard a lot of CLASS D amps and they are very good. No reason not to go with CLASS D. But Tommy's amps over at (DAC) are by far superior to anything I've ever owned or heard in my systems. Not just CLASS D, but all Classes whether that be CLASS A, A/B, tube, SS. They're a great amp regardless. Never realized the full potential of my current ZU's until I paired them with (DAC) amps. I am on my 4th pair of amps. I just keep climbing that ladder!
