My New Amp (Super 300b)
« on: 7 Oct 2020, 06:11 pm »
Aric has been working on a Super 300B for me..
Here is a picture of the amp under it's first hours of burn-in..

It was pretty expensive, and I'm expecting quite a beautiful sounding amp..

Can I get some of your guys thoughts on it..

Wow, looks amazing. Is the dial a negative feedback adjustment? What speakers are you using? Love the walnut case. Can the vu meters be turned off or dimmed during operation? Enjoy!

That looks fantastic!

Aric makes beautiful looking and sounding equipment. I have a pair of Super KT Push Pull monoblocks that I purchased from him this past summer. He is now making me a Mother Lode ll preamp.

Looks great,  some questions.
The wiring are Solid or stranded?
What brand are the transformers?

I would suggest Teflon sockets.

Aric was easy to talk to, and very accommodating..
Spent quite a bit of his time talking with me on numerous phone calls, discussing my system and my listening preferences..

I had a few request, and asked for a couple upgrades..

(1) Reconfigure both chassis’s for the long side to face forward..
(2) Leave LED lights off (meters)
(3) Upgrade the Capacitors , We agreed on Duelund CAST-PIO Tinned Copper Foil
(4) Cardas - Binding Post and RCAs
(5) Upgrade to Khozmo stepped
(6) Emission Labs 300B XLR

I have a set of Tekton Double Impact SE speakers..

I would absolutely ask him to place a headphone jack.  No resistors or transformers need to be added because recommended 'phones would be power-hungry planar headphones (Abyss, Audeze, Hifiman, etc) which sound fantastic straight off of speaker output.

My Elekit 300B does have a headphone jack with resistors in series, but planar headphones sound much better off its speaker taps than the headphone jack, so all that's needed is to put a headphone jack somewhere and just solder up wires straight to the output transformers.  If desired, a toggle to select between speakers and headphones can be installed  :thumb:

Very nice love the walnut cases!  :thumb:
I hope it gives you many hours of pleasurable listening  8)

A copula' questions...1) Looks like a dual mono design with separate power supply...What are the tubes (rectifier, driver, etc...) used respectively?
                                  2) Are those interstage transformers on the amp? Brand?

Run 'er in for a few hundred hours and please report back on your findings.

Beautiful! I'll be very interested in your review. I have a push pull amp built by Aric that I love. He's great to work with,I agree.
