SP3 problems
« on: 5 Oct 2020, 05:33 pm »
Hello all,

My SP3 has been giving me lots of issues with HDMI since I moved. I also switched TV's and HDMI cables at the the same time. The SP3 is the current firmware (updated at Bryston when the HDMI board was upgraded a few years ago).

When my source (Apple TV (input 5), Oppo BDP-203 (input 6), Kaleidescape Strato (input 7)) switches audio formats, the HDMI light goes from blue to red. The video blanks out, and the SP3 adjusts to the new audio format. If it works, the HDMI light goes back to blue, the video comes back on, and the audio format locks in shortly after. The whole process takes maybe 1 - 1.5 seconds.

About 20% of the time though, the video goes static and the SP3 doesn't lock on. Usually, if I turn OFF HDMI, the picture comes back on the screen. Toggling it back on usually results in the audio coming back too, but not always.

This problem does NOT happen when the sources are plugged in directly to the TV.

The HDMI cables are 1m from each source to SP3 and 3m from SP3 to a Sony A9G OLED TV.

I've tried tinkering with what I think is every HDMI setting in the SP3 and don't see any difference. My SP3 is the "original" format with the HDMI board upgraded to the HSR72Q board.

I don't fully understand the HDMI board vs the processor in the SP3, but I'm guessing this is an issue with the processor not being able to switch quick enough all the time? But why does the HDMI unlock and go black? It seems like the video should stay on and just the audio should switch.

Regardless, it's making the SP3 more frustrating than it's worth. I'm hoping there's a fix to this. A setting? Different HDMI cables? Will the new HSR-82T HDMI board make a difference?

I'm going to email Mike P. and Stan B. also, but I'd love to hear any owner input if you've had (or not had) this problem?
