Hey. What's that smell?

OK, I had a SLA delivered for my Sonic Impact. I hooked it up and got a faint smell and knew I toasted the unit. One for the scrap pile. :o

So any suggestions for this dummie on what I did, so I don't do it to the one I just ordered? I'm guessing I got the wires for the 12V jack crossed. There was no white line on my wires, but there was writing on one of them. I attached that wire to the red side of the SLA.

Also, when the SLA is fully charged, is it OK to leave the clips from the charger on the battery or should I remove it after it is charged?

Many thanks,

I am gonna take a SWAG and say you hooked up the SLA while the AA batts were installed, bringing your total voltage up to a Tripath 2024-frying 24 volts.

I remember hearing somewhere that you should not have both hooked up at once.
