I have a friend selling a Heathkit pre- and power amp set. From his facebook post:
For sale is a Heathkit W4-AM HiFi amplifier and PA-W2 preamp. This is a fully functioning unit that I acquired from the NASA engineer who built it in the early 60s. It is rated at 27watts and is LOUD and clean — whatever you put into this amp comes out the same but MUCH louder.
I replaced the original power cord with a 3-prong and I ain’t dead yet.
The amp itself weighs in at 23.25 pounds (the transformers as massive), the preamp at 7 pounds.
I am including a variety of tubes as part of the purchase.
I used this as a guitar amp for a long while, and it is a very clean and pure amp. If one used a Kemper or AX unit I would think this would be very useful as it reproduces faithfully whatever one puts into it.
Price is $350, which is about midrange of what these are selling for on eBay. Local pickup in the DMV* is VERY STRONGLY preferred. Otherwise expect shipping and handling to exceed $50.
