How can I dampen the very slight hum coming from my TV?

My DLP TV is mounted in a corner and it makes a faint hum that I can hear but my wife insists she cannot hear (thus I don't think I have a very compelling warranty claim).  I really don't think the TV is bad, I am just hyper sensitive to this sound.  My old Sony Wega made more noise, but at a frequency I became entirely used to and could ignore.

It is very very low sound, and I think my corner loading and wood floors are magnifying the sound.  Like I said, my wife hears NOTHING and thinks I'm nuts.  Me on the other hand, I'd like to solve it.

Has anyone invented a kind of muffler or trap to absorb this sound?  It's like an ever-so-faint ground loop sound.    I've never tried bass traps, but this seems like a perfect situation for a buzz trap, a hum absorber...

Anyone ever solve a problem like this with a room treatment?

First, try hanging a comforter on the wall or even putting a tall plant in the corner, behind the TV. If that eliminates or changes the sound you're hearing you will know you're on the right track. If it doesn't then you will have to re-think your approach.

Dozer,

As long as you have adequate venting space behind the fan grill area of your DLP set, then you could place a foam square (s) on the wall area adjacent/across from the vent area.
You could also place air bubble wrap sold in lengths under your entire TV's chassic for damping.
I have a 56" DLP as well and know of the fan hum of which you speak.  It is inherent in the technologies design and there is no silver bullett for this issue.

Each set, each light engine/ color wheel apparatus of DLP's have their  own signature sound, some louder than others.  It is just a tough thing to tame if you get a loud one.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the comments and ideas.    My wife kind of gave me a dirty look when she saw the comforter tacked up to the wall behind the tV this morning although I do believe it was helping (especially late last night when there was no ambient noise in the house).

The cable man (DirecTV man actually) was over today, and I asked him for an objective opinion..  he said "what noise?".

I guess I'm just trippin'   :-)

but I will think about whether I can damp that corner with neat foam pieces...   It's the 50" pedestal TV and we really really love it (especially the wife who isn't bugged by the hum).
