Another SoCal Guy
« on: 7 Jun 2020, 11:23 pm »
I'm John, from SoCal, I'm new to the forum but I suppose I've been into the audio hobby a long time. I was looking at a first posting going in a particular area of interest and realized I'm just all over the place. Last two purchases were a Vinyl Nirvana Thorens TD160 Super with a Moth/Rega arm a few weeks ago, (which I'm going to change out for a Jelco 850/950S), and just today a Conrad-Johnson ACT2 line-stage. The other nice thing about it is I met one and have developed nice online relationships with both sellers. The people in this hobby are generally really nice and helpful, if somewhat opinionated at times. :) The new components go in two separate systems and are already getting me thinking about other changes. I'm generally a tube guy but like SS as well depending on the other components. I'm not only a panel guy even though my primary speakers are panels, but I have have some box speakers and love the sound of some I can't afford. I am definitely an analog guy with a fair amount of vinyl but I also stream and use Roon. Like I said I'm just all over the place. Looking forward to learning and participating.

Hi John and Welcome,

I've been toying with the idea of organizing a Southern California audio club.  It would be different from the existing Los Angeles and Orange County Audio Society in that you would not have to be wealthy, brag about your $30,000 speakers, or $10,000 cables, or in any other ways be a snob.  We would also welcome DIYers as an important part of the group, which they do not.

Let me know if you might be interested.  I'm trying to decide if it's worth the time required to get it organized.
