BCD3 and Isolation
« on: 26 Apr 2020, 03:57 am »
Hey World

would it makes any sense to use isolation pads on the feet of the BCD3

at least until i own an audio stand with isolated shelves

or

I need not worry as the feet of a top end player such as this BCD3 would already have top notch isolation incorporated into its design...

Thanks....and Please Be safe...

I have tried and had good success with Star Sound Apprentice stand...More open and cleaner with a touch more air than stock feet......

Made no diff on my BCD-1. But I have a rack with spiked feet, so.....
If your listening room has other sources of floor vibration, then maybe use isolation pads/feet on your gear. There are cheapies that work well, like VibraPods.

I own average $7K a pop equipment. I found after playing around with sorbothane, rollers spike and exotic Wood that ANY and EVERY kind of footer can (maybe) change the sound ... for good or bad.
Rollers never worked out for me.
Sorbothane deadens the sound .A few (very few) times good.
Then Thanks to Michael Green I tried wood. exotic wood and fould great success.
Tone.. adjusting the tone with the wood bits. Worked but was a lot of effort to get it right.
I spent $5000 on wood. THat includes the $$$ half on the 20 Butcher blocks I added to the system.. every item got wood. some multiple layers if wood under the equipment.
Some exotic wood like Pen blanks are as cheap as $1 each. Some of the wood I bought was $30 a pop. I tried a LOT of different kinds. and even different shapes and sizes.

My BCD-3 is mounted on a 3/4 ply shelf in a heavy furniture cabinet.
Listening to treble, mid bass and bass response via the speakers, then with a pair of Sennheiser cans (amplifier off) made no appreciable difference.  IOW, the Spinner wasn't affected by resonance induced by the speakers.
Disclaimer: Classicalmusic only, no heavy metal or synthesized music.

Yep. The Bryston CDPs have pretty sturdy casings. I suspect well-insulated against sound wave-induced vibrations from speakers. The cabinet/shelves should also dissipate any resonant vibrations.

Now with turntables -- that's a diff beast altogether!
