Simply Vinyl vinyl

I just purchased a VPI Scout with a Dynavector DV-20x high output and have been happy with the sound until...I played Simply Vinyl's Aerosmith Rocks.  God awful.  So I'm thinking VTA or perhaps my phono stage is not great.  Other things sound good though (including 180g and 200g pressings).  Then I put on Simply Vinyl's Layla and same thing: wretched.  I know these albums are not audiophile masterpieces, but when I played Clapton's E.C. was Here album I got used for a couple of  bucks it sounded as I expected (i.e., not great, but just like I expect a mass produced rock album to sound).  Certainly a lot more listenable than the Simply Vinyl reissues.

Are all Simply Vinyl reissues this bad?  I mean they are $40 (Canadian) and I can't even play them.

When Simply Vinyl first came out on the seen. From what I can recall. There were rumor that some of the first release are not cut from analog tape, but with digital copy of it. I'm not sure if this is ture. But if I remever correctly there was an article on Stereophile about this issue. If you do a seach on Stereophile site you might find it.

I don't know what SV is up to now but I do have 2-3 album from SV. They seem to sound fine, but I have not compare them to the other LP cut or even cd. So, I really can't give you the absolute answer about this. But I do prefer a copy like those Bristish press or from lable like Classic Record and etc.

I can't say that they are all bad. I don't have the Aerosmith release but I do have quite a few that sound really darned good. The ones that come to mind are Nirvana's Nevermind, Metallicas Black Album, two or three Crowded House releases plus a few more that slip my mind.

Not sure whats with the Aerosmith release. Maybe you just got a bad one (hopefully).
