sharp 1-bit sd-at1000 adapter?
« on: 24 Feb 2005, 07:18 pm »
Hello guys...

a newbie here....

i bought a sharp 1-bit receiver from ebay sd-at1000(just receiver) and noticed that the speaker inputs for these are proprietary...they have a small rectangular box with two small prongs for + and - for each channel. If you buy this receiver new..they come with the speakers and cables along with it so no problems....

does anybody know how to adapt this to fit regular speaker cables/pins?

i did some searching around and saw some cable for this particular model...but cost is around $90 or so....and im not even sure if it will work with my speakers...(and i got the receiver for $50 bucks so hard for me to justify $90 speaker cables when the receiver is just $50)

I called sharp and they were no help either...they said that it was not meant to connect to any speakers other than the one supplied (when bought new)..as it may cause some damage.

I did notice the back saying 4ohm nominal..and i know my speakers are around 6ohm (swans 4.1) I even tried to just touch the prongs with my speaker cables and heard some crackling noise and the receiver shutdown

any suggestions? I would hate to throw out this one...i bought it bec of nice reviews for 1-bit amps from sharp..it does have some headphone outs though..so i may end up getting some cans to test it out...

I've never seen them before.

I've looked at that same receiver before in Sears. It had regular connectors.

You may want to seek the advice of Wayne from Bolder Cable company

You can post to him here;

BTW: That sucks that the auctioneer did not inform you of the strange speaker connections.

Is it square?  It seems to me that maybe it was made for an European or other non US market.  There should not be a major problem wiring something with it.

I think it's typical of HTiBs to have proprietary connectors - some use RCAs
