RX-F10 Question - Chairguy, Dmason - Anyone!
« on: 20 Feb 2005, 04:58 am »
I am a newbie and unfortunately I have to observe all the banter about the RX-F10 from afar since my registration would not validate. This was due to Audio Circles problem with Verizon email customers.  I have had mine for almost 5 months and I purchased primarily on the glowing reviews of the Chairguy and others on this forum.  I have to say that I agree with everything that has been touted about this receiver.

It is an absolutely terrific receiver and I only have it matched with Athena AS-F2s which I realize are lower budget speakers but sound wonderful.  I know Chairguy might take exception to this but they have been compared favorably against the Maggies and are only $399.00 delivered!

However, I do have one problem and I need one of your expertise.  I have both the Panasonic SA-XR10 and the RX-F10 digital receivers.  I have noticed , however, that on both units when I adjust the volume control up and down at certain intervals I hear a crackling or popping as I adjust the volume.  This is true if I am listening to a source or not.  It is subtle but noticeable.  Could anyone shed some insight if they have had the same thing or what might be causing this.  I would appreciate it.  Again, I appreciate all of the helpful information that was given on this unit and I hope I can make some contributions in the future!

My xr10 crackles when I turn up the volume. This is do to a crappy volume nob. I also have a JVC F10 and don't notice any popping.

Hey Hershey...

No exception at all...I think the MMG's are kinda' awful out of the box.  There are many a box speaker of comparative cost that outshine it exactly where it is lacking - resolution.  It's only until you tweek it (neither expensive or terribly time consuming) does it become genuinely good value for $550.  And then, it surely does provide value...and the F10 is a great compliment to it.

No crackling on my F10...except on FM; which is pathetic.

We all look forward to your contributions and insights on the Little Wonder F10 and anything else.

Ciao.

I have listened to many of the mini stereo systems at Fry's Electronics.  I was especially interested in the digital ones.  Almost all of them have some crackling when adjusting the volume.  I just attributed it to cheap volume controls.  One of the volume knobs even squeaked when it was turned.  Although this squeak was plastic rubbing on plastic and not electronic.
