Subwoofer Recommendations
« on: 17 Feb 2020, 02:28 am »
I’m currently building the upgraded X-Statik speakers and see myself already just wanting to step up to the NX-Oticas.  NX-Oticas are my dream even though I never have heard them.  I just fell in love with the open baffle sound after hearing only one set of speakers.  They were Linkwitz 521.4 and pushed by a Rotel preamp with dual XPA-5s.  My only little bit of negativity other than sounding was a little brightness in the highs.  Could be due to the four 1” tweeters/their crossover or the Emotiva amps.  All around pretty well rounded OB speaker.  I’m choosing to get the X-Staiks up and running/break in for a long while.  I’m now focusing on subs that will pair well with both setups of main stereo speakers and any given room.  So back on topic is what are the recommendations on sub kits Danny offers.  Subkit 3 or 4 with cost in mind though besides the power difference and subs should I worry about spending the extra $200 to get two kits of the Subkit 4?  I will already be stretching the budget!  Also, what are the advantages of H-frame versus the W-frame?

X-Statiks are fantastic speakers for the money and a great way to get that OB sound at a reasonable price.  I used sub kit 2 in a sealed sub with them for years to good effect.  I always wanted to try a 2nd sealed sub but never got around to it.

That being said, if you have space for OB subs then definitely go for them.  I jumped on them as soon as I had a chance and have no regrets.  The H frames are probably easier to build.
