Replacement coming for BDP-3?
« on: 5 Dec 2025, 08:53 pm »
Hello James,

I see that the BDP-3 is no longer listed as a current model on the Bryston website.

Are there any plans to replace the BDP-3?
Or has Bryston decided to no longer manufacture streamers?

Thanks! Joel.

Hi Joel,

WE had to stop producing the BDP-3 as the custom main board was no longer available. We are working on a replacement board currently.

James, are you able to shed any light as to features etc. for the BDP-3 replacement? i.e. anticipated outputs, possibility of an updated larger modern screen with album art etc.  or will it continue the with the outdated dot matrix LCD style screen, streaming services support i.e. Qobuz, Tidal, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify etc. integration

Thanks

Hi Rod - it was always the software so we are looking at new versions going forward.

Thanks. So does that imply essentially practically identical hardware design to BDP-3 with just updated OS software and a forced updated internal board due to the previous main board no longer able to be sourced?

I think so - I know Chris and the engineers are looking at all aspects.

The unimpressive screen was originally selected because the much nicer types are not nearly as reliable or long lasting. Perhaps some new technology has recently changed that or will in the future. We shall see.

Learning about it some years ago made me happy with their choice and since I use the web interface anyway, it's only a verification that it has booted and a backup. I do sometimes use it to tell me the local IP the router has assigned, which is genuinely helpful. It switched today, as a matter of fact. (I just never bothered to set up a static IP.)
