Cambridge Audio CXC CD Transport

The new v2 sells for $599
The original now sells for $399.  Is there a better transport for $399?  The supply will run out.

I was considering getting one (of the originals), but I saw more reports of DOAs and other failures than I'd expect, so I got something else. Got to say, this was just Internet buzz, so it could have been wrong, but it worried me enough to scare me off.

AND.....what's the difference with the new v2? Besides case work (color) front panel.
I had the first v for 2 years it was flawless in operation no problems sounded excellent. It beat my (2k) Marantz SA14 S2 Ltd player for trans port at the time.

I'm in complete agreement.(CXC) Flawless operation here for nearly 2 years as well. From what I've read, the changes are only cosmetic. If that is indeed the case, I would choose the original at $399 while they last.

With all due respect, they kept it quiet and made it more reliable. Several but not all players had issues. Feel lucky buy the older one. Not a Cambridge dealer.

I own one and have had dropout issues. Usually at the start or early into discs.

CA, who I think it's a great company putting out many fine products, has had a long, long history of problems with their transports.  I had a CD6, I think that was the model, back in the 90s that sounded wonderful, better than the competing Rega I compared it to, but the transport kicked the bucket.  Got it repaired under warranty at the last dealer in town, only to fail in another year or two, after that dealer went out of business.   Of course that's anecdotal evidence with one model, but the internet reports have continued unabated into this century.  Couldn't find anyone that would work on them because reputable repair facilities that guarantee their work spent too much on repairing their repairs.  If it worked I'd still be using that player, I loved the sounds it made.

I also would add that I have a version 1 and have not had any problems with it at all....  It beat out a Rega Apollo being used as a transport and that surprised me.  The Apollo had been a good CD player in my system.  The CXC has been in and out of my various systems.  I think that can be hard on equipment, but it has been completely reliable.

It has been supplanted by a Jay’s Audio transport - a numbers of levels better!  So, the CXC is now in a living room system for background listening....

I have also heard that the version 2 only has cosmetic changes...
