Greetings everyone!

I am fairly new to the DIY community (>2 years) and found I have mainly been discovering my audio preferences throughout this process. I would build something, know there were aspects I liked and disliked but unable to articulate what I disliked about the sound. Next I purchased sub measurement and EQ tools (CS Labs Umik1, MiniDSP 2x4HD and REW) and started to have a framework and understanding on why I didn't like some of the sounds I was hearing with my builds (mostly room modes and less then optimal/placement & integration with my main speakers).

A little DIY background: first kit was the Parts Express CNote kit (which I still enjoy) then subwoofer flat pack kits, to following others plans on avsforums to modeling and constructing a few subs for myself and friends. Ultimately I came upon the Cult of the Infinitely Baffled and built two manifolds of six 12" drivers in my attic. Theses are not IB optimized drivers (QTS 0.54) but in my room with some EQ, the bass is sweeter then any other alignment I have experienced. This was the bass I was seeking.

Now that I have a better idea of what I want my bass to sound like, I am focusing on my speakers and I came across the New Record Day Tuesday Tech Talk with Mr. Richie, GR-Research and this site.

I am very interested in the X-LS Encore as my next project finished with mahogany veneer and eventually the Rythmic OB subs.

It has been an interesting journey and I look forward to learning from you all and continuing to improve my woodworking and finishing skills and of course, better sound!

That is both very clever and beautiful. I bet your wife won’t mind if you spread a few more of those around the house.

You won’t go wrong with the GR Research products. I have the Mx optics’s and triple sub stacks. They are big fun!

Welcome and happy new year!

Thank you all. I was hoping she wouldn't mind but this sucker was about 27" cubed and more than 150# which was rejected due to size. I wanted it to be accepted as furniture and add a second as couch end tables but no go. But, I put a couple of IB manifolds in the attic which gave me considerably more output and much better quality bass so it was a win win. The IB's have so much output that I am not missing on tactile response compared to the Marty Cube which was down-firing on a suspended floor.
