BDP3 is on 24/7, but this causes problems. Why?
« on: 26 Oct 2019, 09:50 am »
I want to know why I get issues with my BDP3  when I have my BDP3 on 24/7?
spontaneously the BDP3 lost the HDD libary and stops playing the music (of course because the library is gone). Am I the only one with this problem?
What can I do to stop this? Is there something wrong with the music library or can it be something else?
Already thanks.

Hi Hoiman

I leave mine on as well but no issues.

How often would it occur - 2 days - a week?

Chris may have some thoughts as well.

This happens almost every day.

That is weird - I use the BDP3 at the recent Audiofest in Toronto and it was on for 5 straight days.

Hi
Have you tried a different hard drive and or a thumb drive with a few songs on it?

Not yet, I'm going to try this.
The strange thing is that I have the BDP3 on 24/7 for several months now. I had to put the BDP3 off for an hour, 2 weeks ago and after this I have this problem.

I will let you know what the conclusion is with a thumb drive or another HDD.

This happens almost every day.

It shouldn't be doing that or at least nearly that often.  Are the front panel controls still responsive when it happens?  could you check the ip address or place it into service mode using the front panels controls when it occurs?  I've left a link to the manic moose manual, how to use service mode from the front panel menu is near the back of the manual.

It appears the unit has either been turned off, become unresponsive or the id had changed since you posted that.  Perhaps next time you should email me the service id, my email is in the manual i linked earlier.

A thought, could it be a DHCP issue? I am "assuming" the IP address of the BDP is dynamically assigned by your router? If so they need to be refreshed periodically  (usually automatically). If that was somewhat busted you might see symptoms similar to yours. If not, and you have statically assigned the address to the BDP , could it be possible that the static BDP IP address fall's in the address range which your router uses to dynamically assign address"s to other hosts on your network.  If you can,  log into your router and check for any S/W updates. Also verify that the BDP is using a "dynamically" assigned address.

Good luck.

I can try that. But the thing I don't understand how a DHCP issue can give problems with my HDD that is connected directly via USB to the BDP3?

Your right, I did catch that part. I thought you were pulling music off a NAS or server. Sorry about that.

If you are using a wireless device (tablet, phone?) to control your BDP, rather than the panel buttons, then you still need to have an IP address assigned to BDP. So then the DHCP issue (if that's the fault here) still is possible. Whether it's a directly attached USB drive or not, you still need an IP address assigned for use with a tablet/phone. I use USB-attached drives also, so I'm cognizant of this problem.
cheers

I can also still control the BDP3 by tablet/PC/Phone, so there is no DHCP issue. The BDP3 doesn't loose anything else then the connection to the HDD.

Could it be a faulty hard drive, faulty USB hard drive, or faulty connection that intermittently drops the connection?

You can try confirming if it the problems with the BDP-3 or the hard drive by plugging that hard drive into your regular computer indefinitely. If for some reason it has unmounted, you'll know it's lost its connection. Simultaneously plug another hard drive or flash drive into the BDP-3. Maybe try different/all the USB ports and see if all of them are lost or only a few?
