Re: Gold Lion 300b tubes - I burned them in for 250 hours several months ago, and put them in the tube storage box since then (been playing with 2a3 tubes and type 45 tubes in the meantime). Last week, put the Gold Lion 300b back into the system & let them play for a week to re-settle in. It's a good sounding tube, as I noted above.
Today I put in my Psvane Western Electric replica WE300b tube. It sounds a lot better. I wish it didn't, but *sigh*, it does. Why do these things have to be so expensive?
To sum up the differences, the Gold Lion sounds small and stripped of tonal information in comparison to the Psvane WE300b. I'm ALSO glad that I found my pair of WE300b tubes used, from a local audiophile, for only $400 for the pair. "Only". Haha. Crazy hobby.
