Various Schiit DACs for sale
« on: 8 Jul 2019, 09:37 pm »
First is a FrankenFrost DIY assembled “Bifrost” from various Schitt boards I bought on ebay. Original power supply board has a single Bifrost sized ‘analog’ board installed that is labeled Gungnir (it has a pair of RCA outs, and no XLR out). Also plugged in to the power supply board we have a Series 2 type USB input board.  I built a wooden case for the whole shebang.  The front panel has a hole in it so you can push the input selector switch, and 3 tiny holes for the LEDs.  Looks weird, works fine, and sounds like my other first gen factory assembled Bifrost.  Please note that the various boards available on ebay were there because a small percentage of the first run of Bifrosts would occasionally refuse to (or lose) lock on an input signal. When that happened the owner would need to ‘cycle’ through the inputs once, after which the unit would connect and lock again.  Mine has never done that, but be aware that it could. Obviously since this is a cobbled together unit, Schiit would not work on it or repair it if it broke or malfunctioned. $115 plus ship.

Second up: A factory assembled first gen Bifrost with Toslink and Coaxial digital inputs and no USB input installed (Schiit will install a Gen 5 board in there for $150 if you like).  I bought this from a local Goodwill store.  They knew nothing about it other than that it powered up.  I was hoping it might be an Uber or have the newer AK 4490 DAC module, but upon close inspection (after buying it) it is a first gen unit.  It has a couple of minor (i.e. hard to see) scuff marks, and a couple of minor dings on the back of the chassis, but is otherwise very presentable.  Works perfectly, and sounds terrific. No original box or power cord. $215 plus shipping.

Last, but not least, I have a Modi Multibit DAC that I bought so I could get a taste of the Schiit multibit DAC architecture.  This cute little bugger sounds amazing, and is in pristine condition.  As I was accustomed to Bifrost sized Schiits, I had no clue this thing was so tiny, yet would sound so big and bold.  Only selling because I got a good deal on a used Bifrost Multibit. No original box, but comes with the standard Schiit walwart style power supply, and will be carefully double boxed for shipping. $170 plus shipping.
