Hello,

I bought these to use as the matching three front channels of my home theater, but wasn't going to mount them on the ceilings as these are intended, but rather make boxes for them and use them as conventional (albeit EXCELLENT) speakers. I have too much going on, and so ended up finding different traditional speakers, and am sadly parting with these incredible feats of engineering.

These are a coaxial 2 way, using underhung motors for both the woofer and the tweeeter, and a 1st order phase-coherent crossover that Thiel is known for. Underhung motors are INCREDIBLY rare in speakers, as it costs a lot in magnets, almost always uses rare-earth magnets (these Thiel speakers use neodymium for BOTH the woofer AND the tweeter). But the result is that the voice coil is always saturated in the magnetic field, and so they're completely linear at all times (overhung motors are not completely linear/have more distortion).

Additionally, Thiel use 1st order crossovers which are much harder to get right, and require greater and smoother bandwidth from both the woofer and tweeter - which is much more expensive to do. (Dynaudio speakers also do this, and also aren't exactly cheap.) These are comparable to the KEF LS50, which are also very special speakers. These are better in a few ways, but much more similar than different (coaxial, with a well-damped metal cone and metal tweeter, with shorting rings on the woofer and the tweeter for an even more linear motor). These are intended for the home theater application, and so require a subwoofer crossed over at 80 Hz. - ie: these are not full-range speakers. (Talk to me about subwoofers, as I might have one for sale, and if not can direct you to some good ones (SVS, etc.))

So these speakers are really special. I'm looking for a firm $637 for the trio. They retailed for $1450 each. I am selling three matching speakers, ideal for the LCR channels of a really high-end home theater, for barely $200 each. This is a really, really good deal. As such, the price is not negotiable. Again, the price is firm.

Let me know if you have questions. I am pretty knowledgeable about home stereos/home theaters/audio.

The speakers are painted tan. I unfortunately do not have the paint mask to repaint them. I would suggest taking the drivers out in order to repaint them - the drivers are way too valuable to risk getting paint on them.

They can be picked up (and listened to) at my home in Los Angeles 90042, and we visit family in the San Francisco Bay Area every few months, so that's possible too.

THIEL POWERPOINT 1.2 SPECIFICATIONS

Impedance 4 ohms (3 ohms minimum)

I might be interested. I have 4 of the original PowerPoint models and am thinking I would like to get some (very) similar ones while I can, before they disappear completely. Do all three work? (not blown/damaged).

I driver from SLO County to Riverside County on a fairly regular basis, or if you are heading North on the 101 through southern SLO County, I think we can work something out for pickup.

Let me know.

****Edit*****

Which model are these? The "Stock" Photos and template show a rounded top, but the pictures of the speakers show the "Squared Off" top more similar to what I have (early model)

The photographs of the tan colored trio are the speakers in question - they are the squared off model (didn't know there were different generations - thanks for that!). If you're going to Riverside from SLO then you'll pass right through us - we're ~just~ before/west of Pasadena.

Cheers,
Tal

Not sure if the model # is on the back (inside) of the speaker boxes. If you could check I'd appreciate it. Also just want to confirm speakers are in working condition.

The speakers are in excellent working condition, just don't want to deal with adding (another) external amplifier to my setup. I'll take a picture of their bottoms (with their permission of course) tonight.

Tal

Sounds good. I'll probably be heading through in the next week or less - maybe the weekend. I vary route based completely on the traffic. Sometimes the 134, 118 other times. Geesh I hate the traffic on the 210 in that area east of Pasadena..... (me and every other person that has to drive it)

Thanks Tal.

It was nice to meet you and an easy transaction.

You were right, the speaker grills are magnetic and come off fairly easily. Need to do a bit of sanding, figure out what color I need, and get them mounted.

It was a pleasure.
